Fat Conan has clearly been out of touch for a while as he managed to miss both UK:R and Consolevania’s mention of this little contest. Somewhat amazingly, despite a contest seeking the best “girl” amongst “female” gamers superficially sounding as enticing as one seeking the best foetus deformity amongst IVF mishaps, the gallery manages to be reasonably easy on the eye.

However, that alone is not enough to prevent FC getting very angry over the event; partially because Fat Conan is a new barbarian and as such thinks that such competitions are demeaning and have no place in a modern, post-feminist society; partially because of the presence of cosplayers in the line-up; but mainly because half of them couldn’t possibly be classified as gamers.

For example, “Tatiana” who, according to many forum exit polls, would be way out in front (no pun intended) has listed her favourite games as “tetris, snake on my phone” and plays for an estimated zero to three hours a week. That doesn’t make her gamer, at most it makes her someone who has, on occasion, been bored on a train.

The competition is apparently an effort to raise the profile of female gamers in what is perceived as (and what may well be) a male dominated arena. Sadly though, all this really has any chance of doing is giving female gamers the hope that there’s likewise the possibilty of finding some eye-candy amongst the wheezy, obese, male gamer community. Hahaha…haha…NO!
