The one with the waggly tail
Multiplayer Nintendogs re-enactment “Crufts” will soon be upon us, and while waiting for the men-in-motors buffoonery of BBC two’s “Top Gear” I happily caught the end of the BBC’s heads-up on the event. The show came from the grounds of Lord and Lady Whatever’s 17th century stately mansion and was presented by the same people who normally present programmes concerned chiefly with horses and horse-related activities. It all seemed a bit grand for an event that will predominantly feature dogs sweating in Birmingham.
Still, it did hand out a few helpful hints on keeping your dogs well watered during the event: they suggested bringing water with you, rather than queuing up every five minutes to purchase bottles of cherry-flavoured highland spring for you and your dehydrated mutt. Invaluable stuff.
In keeping with Crufts’ edgy image and the gritty locale featured in the show, they finished by playing Marilyn Manson’s cover of “Personal Jesus” over the ending credits. I’m at a loss as why this particular video-game cosplay event gets more coverage than any of the others; it even has its own entry in the Guinness book of records under the heading “World’s largest dog-based event (non-sexual, non-culinary)”. I can only hope that the upcoming Nintendogging extravaganza to be held in Cardiff this August* is able to attract the same level of interest.
*Please note this event may be entirely fictional.

I feel obliged to point out that dogs pant, rather than sweat.

Fact attack: Dogs pant as a primary means of regulating body temperature, but also secrete a watery fluid through their pads (effectively sweating). Presumably the other glands in a dog’s skin are responsible for dog stench(TM) more than anything else.
