Singstar: Eurovision

Slippery when wetSadly hasn’t been announced. However, a look at the track listing found on the latest offering “Singstar: Pop Hits”, suggests the the quality doesn’t have to drop too far before it becomes a genuine possibility. It’s fair to say that while we’re used to a certain level of fluff in the Singstar editions, the latest in the line still manages to stand out from its kin in the pap stakes.

Most notable of the terrible tracks available is ring-tone favourite “Lonely” by Akon (or Aircon or Acorn or however it’s spelt). While very little enjoyment can be gained from listening to the track itself, the video offers a certain level of entertainment in the form of watching Akon sweat, something he seems to do profusely and uncontrollably. Changing his shirt within the first thirty seconds of the song, he spends the majority of the remainder of the video covered in a layer of water and oil in quantities not often witnessed outside chip-pan fires.

The rest of the tracklist, while not as fundamentally awful as the aforementioned effort, does little to raise the standard. There are exceptions of course, Goldfrapp and the Scissor Sisters in this case, which both look like they’ve turned up at the wrong party, at the wrong venue, on the wrong night.

I can only hope that this Sony offering is a portent and that we’ll soon be able to exercise our vocal chords on the Ukrainian and Belgian entries, and maybe even that UK classic, all of which would be batting above this average.
